Three Days. Real Work. Shared Skills.
Join the Preservation Trades Network in Medina, New York for the 2026 International Preservation Trades Workshop—three days of hands-on learning, live demonstrations, and connection with craftspeople from across the country.
Hosted at Talis Historic Restoration, this year’s workshop is set in one of the most distinctive masonry landscapes in the United States, surrounded by historic cobblestone buildings and a deep tradition of skilled craftsmanship.
Western New York is home to one of the most remarkable concentrations of historic cobblestone construction in North America—and Medina sits right in the middle of it.
In the early to mid-19th century, skilled masons developed a distinctive building tradition using rounded fieldstones left behind by glacial activity. The result is a landscape of structures that reflect extraordinary craftsmanship and durability.
Just as important is Medina’s connection to the Erie Canal—one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in American history. The canal turned small towns like Medina into hubs of trade and movement, fueling the growth of local industry and shaping the built environment you see today.
Medina sandstone, quarried locally and shipped via the canal, became a defining material in buildings across the region and beyond.
For IPTW, this setting matters. You’re not just learning techniques, you’re immersed in a place where the materials, the history, and the trades are all deeply connected. It’s a rare opportunity to experience preservation work in a landscape built by hand and shaped by one of the country’s most important historic corridors.
